In order for natural afro hair to become long does it have to be braided all the time?

In order for natural afro hair to become long does it have to be braided all the time or will every now be enough if it's well cared for? Does it automatically break if it's not braided or attached somehow and needs to be combed daily?

Some africans have naturaly straight hair

no, however the hair is often naturally curly so you won't notice the length. Hair can be straightened instead of being braided.

braided hair is often kept short. people will usually have their hair braided because they like it that way. in africa it is usually those who cannot aford to get their done will have it natural
