What's the best way to detangle ultra-tangled long hair?

My friend has super long semi-think red hair that is like a huge nest in the back. She tried to fix it herself today by washing and conditioning then combing, but it didn't work. So I am going over to help her.

What is the best way to fix and untangle disastrous hair?

I used to have long thick hair that took me literally hours to detangle. There really is no easy way out. Shampoo with a gentle shampoo and apply a very thick conditioner. (Herbal Essences, Pantene) Rinse it out. Take a wide tooth detangling comb and spray some detangling spray in your hair (I loved Sunsilk Thermashine Spray!) Then, gently detangle from the ends up. This greatly helps the whole process. I now have a super short pixie so I no longer have to deal with the whole thing.

soak it in leave in conditioner, then gentely brush it, alot, until theres no tangles, left. and then cut all the split and dead ends off, just to helpp prevent future tangling,

Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner. While your hair is still wet get some dentangler spray and a good brush. Seperate your hair into very tiny sections and brush to its detangled. Continue all aorund your head, till all your hair knot-free.

ok what you need to do is:

put A LOT of conditioner on the comb and on the knot (not when you're washing it, just when you're untangling it) because conditioner makes it so much easier.

and then from there, it's basically just regular, brushing untangling.

but trust me, the conditioner HELPS

Ok so over the summer my hair was soooo matted that it felt like there was gum in there! No joke!

Tell her she need to spray a whole bunch or detangling spray like Johnson and Johnson's No more tangles spray in there and try and comb. Yes its for babies, but it works great.

Tell her to comb as best as she can. Then wet the hair and shampoo it with moisturizing shampoo. Then comb it some more. You HAVE to keep combing, I screamed and cried but it was well worth it! Condition her hair with a loooooooooot of conditioner. Put a shower cap on and have her put the blow dryer on low and "blow dry" her hair while its conditioning. The heat helps the conditioner. After like 15-20 minutes (you dont have to constantly blow dry) wash it out. Make sure you comb more every now andthen while the condtioner is rinsing out. Then squeeze the water out (dont twist it!!) and just comb comb comb comb. Once it is combed out let her hair air dry. Make sure she puts a detangling spray and leave in conditioner in her hair! Once it is air dryied, flat iron her hair. This is an alternitive to cutting her hair. It works every time! Good Luck!!

after its shampooed and conditioned towel dry off the excess water and start by holding her hair with the back of your left arm across her shoulder and using your right hand to comb from the ends working your way upwards you could also use a large paddle brush .you can ues a comb or brush on wet hair but only a brush on dry hair
