Blk/afr. hair--Why does my head get so sore when I wrap it?

I try to wrap my hair every night to keep it straight but i stopped because my head always gets sore around the front edges and in the middle, when i comb it out. I thought maybe it was because the wrap was too tight but that was not the case. does anybody know why this is happening and any suggestions on what i can do to make it stop? Or possibly other alternatives to wrapping hair?

Are you using pins to wrap your hair? If so, I would not recommend it, because they pull on your hair. Instead, use your satin scarf to keep the hair in place at night.

If you are not already doing so, use a soft-padded brush to wrap you hair.

Also, I would use a wide-toothed comb to comb out your hair.

Have you been moisturizing your hair at night prior to wrapping your hair? I use a light oil on my scalp and hair at night (light olive oil, jojoba oil, almond oil).

When you said you thought the wrap was too tight, did you mean your actual hair, or the scarf? At times I found that I was making the scarf too tight at night and getting sore around the edges of my head as well.

Is this something new you've noticed after you have been wrapping your head for a while? Does the soreness continue all day? If so, this might be something physical in nature and you might want to get it checked out by an MD.

All the best.
