How do i make my boring hair look "scene"?

Now before u start saying "following fashion isnt good" just stop. im not scene. i have no label. i just wear what i like. even though most of the time i get branded "emo" or "scene". my hairs below my shoulders (quite long) and straight. and i have a block fringe. my mum says i cant cut my hair or colour it. because apparently it "ruins" my hair. owell. i just want to know how i can style it to give it the "scene" look. back comb? frizz? i dont know. please help me. REALLY NEED IT. fnx. x
