How do i gel or put wax my hair properly without making the hairslightly curved afterwards?

I am a 27 yo male.

Whenever I put gel or wax in my hair I try to style it by spiking it at the front. However after doing this, even though it sticks up the hair always appears to be slightly curved when it is up. I would like it spiky and sticking straight up but not in a curved way. It's really annoying because it looks like i have a elvis quiff (but not to that extent lol) when i dont want it like that! Am i doing something wrong? Tried all types of gels and waxes they all have pretty much the same effect. My hair is really thick though maybe that has something to do with it? I dont comb it or anything after showering just put the wax on after bathing when the hair is damp/dry.

Have it thinned out it is too heavy and then get a better gel product like bed head ....

Do you use both gel %26amp; wax? The wax is best for what you are trying to do. Try using it when your hair is dry and beginning with just a little bit. Rub it between the tips of your fingers first and then pull through the hair, avoiding the roots.

It sounds like you might be using a little too much product and/or your hair is too damp.

I used to have the same problem dude.

First you need to completly dry your hair...Dampness will make it curve in. The best way to do it is using a hairdryer, and trying to sort of set your hairstyle while drying it.

Don't use cheap products, the best is using products with a wax texture to them.

Don't put big quantities of the product; it's always good to pre-heat it by rubbing it between your palms and preferably apply it little by little using your finger tips (not your palms).

If all this still doesn't give satisfying results (since you have thick hair), you may wanna consider gettin a ''Hair Relax'' treatment at your salon: You'll need to do that several times in the beginning then once every 5 to 6 months.
